Fortress Mariupol.Orest

“Fortress Mariupol” is a film made of the footage of video calls with the soldiers who were encircled at Azovstal in Mariupol. Since the siege began, the director has been talking with the Azov regiment fighters, thus creating their portraits.

The film’s protagonist is Orest, a former liaison officer and now head of the Azov Regiment’s press service in Mariupol. Orest has been covering the situation in the city and at Azovstal since the beginning of the Russian invasion. He is now in captivity.

Yuliia Hontaruk

Yuliia Hontaruk was born in 1987. She studied film directing at the State University of Theater, Cinema and Television. Since 2013, she has been a member of the National Union of Cinematographers in Ukraine. With the start of the Euromaidan protests, Yuliia became one of the founders of the creative association Babylon'13. She directed more than 35 documentaries for Babylon'13. Yuliia's films have been screened at IDFA, Ji.hlava IDFF, and Trieste IDFF.
