Invisible Battalion

The film tells the stories of six Ukrainian female soldiers from the front lines in Donbas. The stories paint a panoramic picture of the position of women in the Ukrainian armed forces at the beginning of the Russian war in Ukraine in 2014.

The film shows a discrepancy between the actual tasks of women in the war and their official duties: Yulia Matvienko and Olena Bilozerska are two snipers, but they are not introduced as such. Andriana Susak also fights with a weapon, but is officially employed as a seamstress. We meet Oksana Yakubova, who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and has difficulty returning to a life outside the front lines. And we get to know two medics: Daria Zubenko and Yulia Paievska (Taira).

"The Invisible Battalion" is not just a film, but also an initiative founded by film producer Maria Berlinskaya, who fights for gender equality in the Ukrainian army.
